Kortney’s Last Show Podcast, EP 67: BEEF, Drake vs Meek Mill; Vince Staples Summertime ‘06

On this episode of The Last Show Podcast, I talk about the Drake vs Meek Mill battle. It started off slow and then Drake threw a haymaker. I talk about what this battle means for both rappers careers and break down the diss tracks. Also I talk about The OVO Festival in Toronto where Drake…

Kortney’s Last Show, EP 48: Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole Album Revies

Kendrick&J.Cole

Welcome back to The Last Show Podcast.

On this episode I talk about Kendrick Lamar’s new album, To Pimp A Butterfly. I call it an album review, but I’m not even sure it’s a review. Heck, I’m not even sure it’s a hip-hop album. It is a great work of art that confuses me. I don’t know what Kendrick is talking about. However, I spend time talking about it, and breaking it down.

I also talk about rediscovering the J. Cole, 2014 Forrest Hill Drive album. I heard it when it came out, and I wasn’t that impressed. It was probably because I soured on J. Cole after the Born Sinner album. I wasn’t a fan of that album. I thought it was too clunky. So when 2014 Forrest Hill Drive can out, I probably didn’t give it a fair shake. So I glad I got the opportunity to rediscover the album, while was traveling.… Read More

Kortney’s Last Show, EP 45: Brian Williams’ Lies

kendrick-lamar-the-blacker-the-berry

Brian Williams, oh Brian. What happened?

This is an interesting story, but I have no real opinion on it. Because I watch local news. Local news is where all the action is at. Local news reporters have to make news at least 3 days a week, because sometimes nothing happens. Consequently they end up with odd stories about the local dive bar running a pull tab scam. To me that is entertaining and that’s why I don’t watch Brian Williams. However, I am interested in all this lying. Why say you got shot at in a helicopter, when you work on TV. Come on Brian.

So I talk about Brian Williams on the podcast. Also I realized that Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar officially have new songs. I close the show wondering why people always like to count Tom Brady’s money.

Kortney’s Last Show, EP 37: The Legendary Roots Crew Live in Seattle

TheRootsLive

This podcast is all about The Legendary Roots Crew, and the concert they put on last night. I’ve always said they’re the greatest live band I’ve seen, and last night they were great. They didn’t do a lot a new stuff, which was fine with me.

I also get off on weird tangents as usual. I talk a lot about the opening act, and opening acts that I have seen. I talk about the time I witnessed and act almost get booed out of the building at a Christian concert.

I also go in on DJs. I just don’t get the beat machine guy that somehow has created a fan base of people who long to be annoyed as a source of entertainment.

Kanye West, a Bound 2 disaster…“That was Kim Kardashian?”

If you haven’t seen Kanye West’s new video Bound 2, you haven’t missed anything. You can easily find the video on the internet. But you can also keep downloading music through Limewire (the latter is more likely to lead to less viruses). Or if you’re so inclined, you can click on the embedded video below.…

The True Top 50 Hip-Hop Songs of All Time: 50 – 31

Recently Rolling Stone magazine out together a panel of 100 industry executives and came out with their list of the top 50 hip hop songs of all time. Now I read this list, absorbed this list, and disagreed with this list. So rather than being pissed off and trying to strike up a, “Hey what do you think about that questionable top 50 hip hop list Rolling Stone pot together” with unsuspecting strangers at the bar (That can be risky especially at the bars I go to).  I said, “What the hell?” I will put together my own list. I have a blog that 1000 people a week read (That’s right I’m bragging). I should put out a list that all 1000 of those people will hate”. Thus it was born.

Now this is not a list meant to be a memorial for the golden age of hip-hop. That means that Slick Rick won’t have 10 songs in the top 10.… Read More

The 10th Anniversary of Kanye West’s The College Dropout…the Year Hip Hop Changed

It’s been ten years since Kanye West announced his arrival on the music scene with The College Dropout. Back then West was just some guy wearing cashmere Polos. This was back before he became a pop-culture controversy magnet. It may be hard for you to remember that far back, but try to take yourself there. Go…
