The Great Seattle Seahawks and the 12th Man Complex

The Great Seattle Seahawks and the 12th Man Complex

12th-Man

The Seattle Seahawks are the best team in the NFC. They could be headed to their second Super bowl, in the history of the franchise. But for the sake of my sanity I hope not, because I can’t take the 12th man any more. Enough!

Now please note everyone in Seattle. I’m not talking about all the fans of the
Seahawks. Some of you all a normal, rational human beings. I’m talking about the
90% of you that think you’re apart if the team.

The whole 12th man thing was cool for a while, but it’s gotten out if hand. The idea that fans are deciding the outcome of any game is ridiculous. At best fans are annoying, and maybe while being loudly annoying. They can cause communication problems. But a crowd isn’t swinging the results of any sports’ contest.

The New Orleans Saints didn’t lose in Seattle last week because of the whimsical 12th man. They lost because they weren’t good enough. They lost because Marshawn Lynch was running through their secondary (Swiss Cheese style). It had nothing to do with the crowd.

Furthermore if you’re someone that deems themselves to be a “true” fan of the Seahawks. And you’re taking some kind of credit for being the “12th man.” You’re actually taking away from how great your team is. The more you become the focus of the sports coverage. The more you take away from how great the Seahawks are.

The Seattle Seahawks are a great football team. They have an offense that complements their fantastic defense. The have been able to give the San Francisco 49ers huge problems, and have dominated them at times. Now rather that’s enough to put them in the super bowl is yet to be seen. I just hope the “12th man” takes the rest of the year off.
